NetBackup Troubleshooting Tips for Windows

From DOS prompt:

 

1. cd c:\program files\veritas\netbackup\bin

 

    a. bpclntcmd -pn  (returns what the master server considers your

hostname (peer name) to be).

 

    b. bpclntcmd -hn <hostname> (returns client hostname with ip address)

 

    c. bpclntcmd -sever <NetBackup Master server> (returns netbackup master

server hostname)

 

    d. bpclntcmd -ip <ip address> (returns client ip address)

 

2. netstat -a | find "bpcd" (returns 13782)

 

    netstat -a | find "13782" (returns bpcd)

 

3. Check etc/hosts file

 

    a. c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (ensure master and media servers

listed with fqdn and ip)

 

4. Perform nslookup of client and ensure reverse name resolution.

 

5. Check Backup/Archive/Restore GUI and ensure that master server is top of

server list and all servers are fqdn. Ensure client is fqdn.

 

6. Check for name resolution in registery.

 

    a. hkey_local_machine\software\veritas\netbackup\currentversion\config

(ensure master server is at top of list. Ensure media servers are listed and

fqdn for all listed  hostnames.

 

7. Ensure nic and network switch is hardcoded to full duplex.
