Not able to get full functionality at another office. PROBLEM: Not able to get full functionality at another office (in a different domain, than your home office domain, on the same WAN), other than the person's primary one; even though your domain is set to the correct one, and you can see the domain, but few other computers in network neighborhood. SOLUTION: 1) Call the help desk for your primary office and tell them to click on start and then run and type in winipcfg (if they have a win95 machine) and then click the more info. button on the IP Configuration box that pops up. Have them then read you the primary and secondary WINS server and DNS server. 2) Right click on network neighborhood, then click on properties. In the Network box first go to the identification tab and write down the name of your computer. 3) Then, after going back to the configuration tab, double click on the tcpip listing for the NIC card you are using. If one says integrated then that's the built in NIC card. You may have to shut down the machine and pull out the PCMCIA card to identify it to pick the correct tcpip listing there. 4) After clicking on the correct tcpip listing you will, at this point, be in the tcpip properties box. On the DNS Configuration tab you will a) enable DNS b) put your computer name as the host c) confirm that the correct domain name for your home office is in there, or put it in d) put in the DNS Server that you got from the help desk when they went into winipcfg/more info. on their machine. 5) Go to the wins tab, enable wins, and put in the info. you were given for the primary and secondary (not necessarily necessary) wins server addresses. 3) Reboot and you should be able to see all of the usual computers in network neighborhood which you probably couldn't see before. |
