Parallel & Meta-Search Engines

The Meta Crawler (Softbot) has been a favorite of mine for some time. It is a parallel engine which simultaneously uses OpenText, WebCrawler, Inktomi, Alta Vista, InfoSeek, Yahoo, Lycos, Excite, and EINet Galaxy to get it's returns. If you need to find a particular site quickly it's one of the best.

HotBot, (help page) (50 Million+ Pages) (run by Hotwired), with a new interface, offers a sort of lateral metasearch. Without retyping your query, you can click radio buttons to get the results of your search in AlltheWeb, Google, Inktomi, or Teoma. It is C/NET's favorite search engine. One Seek is one of the most unique and different of all the parallel search engines. It lets you search specifically in certain areas of general interest to narrow your search faster.

This saves a lot of time flipping back and forth between multiple engines.
